We’re finally starting to see some sunshine, which means it’s time for new trends and the chance for a wardrobe overhaul. From the runway to the street, we’re looking at the biggest looks that are coming up for Spring Summer 2016, so you can be ready to find the styles that suits you.
We’ve also rummaged through DIWAH’s closet to pick out some of our best new pieces and collections that you can personalise to perfectly accessorize the trends that are taking over SS16. For a unique, new season look that’s streets ahead of the fashion pack, you’ve come to the right place.
Vivid Colours and Prints
Summer is the time to show off a rainbow of vivacious hues and bold, oversized prints that never fail to get your outfit noticed. The high-street gets a colour makeover as people shop for holiday clothes and become more adventurous in their style and this season is no exception. Go for arty, abstract or contemporary, graphic patterns like those that strutted down the catwalk at the Christopher Kane SS16 show during London Fashion Week last year.
Eye-catching colour blocks of watermelon pink and an envy inducing emerald green were seen at the Gucci SS16 show, which had us lusting after bright shades. When the sun comes out, so do the vivacious colours, as this is a trend that comes back almost ever SS16 season in one form or another. Choose a printed wrap dress in your favourite, stand out hues, pair a pop art style, floral midi skirt with a coral crop, or add a jewel toned tee with classic denim shorts.
DIWAH’s bold collection can add that splash of colour with a statement necklace, especially if dressing head to toe in vibrant prints isn’t really your style. Flaunt your fashion credentials in the Chunky Chain Princess Pendant Necklace, adorned with sunset orange and fuchsia teardrops that capture the independent, exuberant vibe of this style. Or, go for something simpler that still has a daring aspect to your outfit with turquoise beads and gleaming gold elements with the Turquoise Matinee Spike Pendant Necklace.
The 90s are back in a big way. It may not seem that long since we left grunge plaid skirts and preppy pastel hues behind, but the clashing styles of so many of our favourite film and sitcom fashion icons will be one of SS16’s emerging looks. This era has been seen on the runway and the high-street for a while now and is the inspiration for this season’s style.
Slip dresses are making a reappearance, channeling the Kate Moss look, while crop tops and midriff baring jerseys have been making their way into your wardrobe since last summer. Add a long, matinee or opera cluster necklaces with bohemian pendants to your long sleeved crop to enhance the different lengths. Show off chunky pieces layered underneath an oversized jacket, with a feminine cami in sleek satin for a real blast from the past.
The cute shades of the Candy collection are reminiscent of the girly, 90s bubblegum hues. Indulge in sweet, crystallised druzy or intoxicating amethyst pendants. Accessorize with the Sherbet Pendant Necklace or DIWAH’s Chunky Sugar Lumps Pendant Necklace, worn with different textures, from a fluffy knit or chic silk to a denim pinafore.
Tie dye is also making a comeback; the 90s boho alternative can be found in high-street stores on tees, vests and leggings. Create your own, bespoke style piece with a plain top and match to the Boho or Tribal collection to contrast the bright patterns.
From 90s feminine grunge to the underwear as outerwear trends of recent seasons, we’ve been phasing the slip dress in as an SS16 essential. Chiffon, lace and satin now adorn the new slip dresses from Burberry and Rocha, Topshop and River Island, for a more sophisticated take on the trend. The sultry glamour is an easy way to dress up for a summer night out or evening meal during your holiday, replacing the LBD for cocktails as the sun sets.
This new, lingerie inspired look should be accessorized with delicate jewellery, midi heels and a bejewelled clutch to keep in line with the sumptuous, pared back style. Rose gold works well as a feature piece to enhance this slinky look. We recommend the beautiful Romance collection for this trend, adding a shimmering pendant in scarlet and red to dresses in neutral shades – the Bold Heartful Statement Necklace will complete the look.
In case of a dull day in the city (which, in Britain, is more than likely), layer over long sleeves or a knit to keep warm without compromising on your outfit.
Off the Shoulder:
After last year’s asymmetrical style, we’re embracing the off the shoulder look this SS16, with the sales of tops and dresses with a Bardot neckline soaring. We’re revealing our shoulders and opting for longer, figure flattering body-con pieces with collars that are known as straight from the shoulder. Take note of structured jumpsuits and power dresses from Boss and The Row, the label by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
A Bardot neckline is particularly flattering for summer, whether you’re basking by the ocean or hitting the streets on a city break. You may think this trend is hard to pull off, but a cut that is striking with capris, jeans, pencil or flared skirts is a look that everybody can get on board with. Inject some of your personality into this trend by accessorizing with an arm full of bangles and high waisted shorts. A shorter, collar necklace is will sit just above the neckline of an off the shoulder piece, drawing attention to the individual way you wear this style. Make rockabilly retro your chosen look with the addition of the Club Tropicana Collar Necklace to a plain white top, with exotic hues from the Sea Breeze collection. Or, go for full on colour with Spear Burst, a collar piece in juniper green that will transform a bold outfit.
Look fabulous this season by infusing the biggest SS16 trends with your own personal style and accessorizing with a little help from DIWAH.
